Going green or reducing your carbon footprint is a must if you care about the environment. For some people, reducing their carbon footprint entails purchasing the latest eco-friendly vehicle and installing solar panels throughout their entire home. For many people, that isn’t always an option. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, but don’t have a lot of time, money or energy to spend doing so, consider the following five small changes you can make in your life to successfully reduce your carbon footprint.
1. Start recycling. Plastic, paper, aluminum, wood and even glass can each be successfully recycled. To keep your recycling efforts organized, consider purchasing a few metal bins or containers to store the recycled material in until you’re ready to take it to a recycling center.
2. Keep your lights, appliances or electronic items unplugged if they are not in use. Unbeknownst to many people, lights, appliances and electronic items that remain plugged in still use a small amount of energy.
3. Pay your bills online. Not only will you save a lot of paper by paying your bills online, but you’ll also end up saving plenty of time as well.
4. Switch to Energy Star products. Energy Star products can be a bit expensive, yet they’re well worth the cost in the long run as they help conserve a substantial amount of energy.
5. Get rid of any incandescent light bulbs in your home and replace them with compact fluorescent bulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs are energy efficient, produce less heat and even last longer than incandescent light bulbs.
